MAC Hey, Sailor! To The Beach Body Oil in Man Rays: Review & Swatches!

Hey everyone,
Today, I'm reviewing a product I got from the MAC Hey, Sailor! collection.  The 'To The Beach Body Oil' in Man Rays is a super shimmery body oil which is meant to moisturize and add a beautiful sheen to the skin.   This formulation was actually first released with the To The Beach collection 2 years ago and has since been re promoted to be included in the Hey, Sailor! collection.  When I first saw this product at MAC I was convinced that it would be disastrous and leave me looking like I was about to head over to a rave, but I was pleasantly surprised by the results.

MAC offers a lighter shade, which I really liked as well; however, I thought that Man Rays would look better with my tan during the summer.  Man Rays is a beautiful bronze shade with gold shimmer which looks very, very scary at first glance.  With my skin tone right now, this shade adds a little bit of a beach goddessy tint and glow to my skin, which I love. You can get a really intense amount of glitter on your skin if you layer this product.  (That's what I did in the blended picture in order to get the glitter to show up on camera).  Below is a photo of Man Rays unblended and blended.

I just noticed that this picture makes my arm look REALLY tan compared to the above picture...this is not the work of this body oil.  In order to make the glitter actually appear I had to take the picture in a yellow room where it was fairly dark, making my arm appear more tan on camera than it actually is. :)
This product has a pump applicator, which makes it really easy to dispense about a pea sized amount of the product per pump.  I was really impressed with the formulation of the body oils, they're watery and somewhat oily.  I thought they would be really messy and sticky, but that wasn't the case at all.  The shimmer was noticeable but not too crazy unless layered. Also, this product feels really moisturizing on my skin, which is an added bonus!  With Man Rays especially, it is crucial that you take the time to thoroughly blend it out or else it will look streaky on light skin.  It's fairly easy to remove as well.  I took some simple hand soap and water to my arm and most of the glitter and the slight tint came right off, leaving behind a couple pesky specks of glitter.

Over all, I was extremely impressed with this product and I think that it's something that I will use often in the summer and pack with me for beach trips.  I plan to use this product on my legs, arms and shoulder/chest area; however, I don't think that the glitter is subtle enough that one could get away with wearing it all over the face.    This product retails for $22.50 US and $27 CND for 1.7 oz of product.

What do you think of Man Rays? Would you wear it?

    1. I definitely think that the lighter version could look great as a face highlighter if used sparingly!
