Tips and Tricks

On this page is a collection of makeup tips found in my previous blog posts on one page for your convenience!

When stuck for time, and trying to deal with a nasty pimple, putting redness reducing eye drops on a q-tip and placing it on the pimple for about 30 seconds will help to reduce the redness of the pimple, making it easier to conceal!

Try to sleep on your back.  When you sleep with your face touching the pillow, bacteria is being transferred from the pillow to your face which can cause you to break out.  If you have trouble doing that, you can always switch your pillow case once every day/second day.

Apply a matte or shimmery pink/white/champagne eye shadow to your inner corner to give your face a more youthful glow and to make yourself look more awake.

If you have oily skin, go for a matte foundation to help balance your skin.  If you have combination or dry skin, opt for a dewy finish foundation.  People with 'normal' skin can go with either or.

Begin by applying a small amount of foundation, then increase the amount to provide the degree of coverage that suits you best.

If you're the kind of person who get's their nails done once a week, you might want to consider a gel manicure.  These manicures are more expensive, but last for 2-3 weeks without chipping, saving you money in the long run!

to avoid/get rid of dry skin, be sure to avoid too much sun, harsh wind, and over perfumed facial soaps and remember to moisturize daily.

Drink a lot of water as it helps to rid your body of toxins.  Drinking ice cold water helps burn calories as it hydrates you!  One glass can burn up to 30 calories.

When applying eye shadow, the brow bone should always be highlighted with a lighter shade of shadow.  This will make your eyes look more open and wide

Blow drying your hair upside down for 10 minutes can help add volume to flat hair and make it appear more bouncy.

If you have deep set eyes, try using liquid liner instead of pencil liner in order to avoid smudging.

If you suffer from dry lips and love lipstick, but don't like how lipstick accentuates those cracks, apply a layer of lip balm before you apply your makeup.  By the time you're ready to apply lipstick your lips should look and feel more moisturized.

To create the illusion of a perfectly proportioned body balance is key!  If you're bottom heavy, counter it by adding a little volume up top.  If you're top heavy, reverse it.  Remember that structuring clothes can transform your entire shape.  (This tip comes from Style - Lauren Conrad page 112)

When it comes to makeup, balance is very important.  If you're going for a bold lip, try to go for a more neutral eye.  If you're going to play up the eyes with a dramatic smoky look, go for a nude or light pink lip.

The key to healthy and beautiful skin, hair and nails is protein!  Be sure to include the proper amount of protein in your diet daily to ensure glowing skin, healthy nails, and shiny and healthy hair.

If you have a warm skin tone, go for peach or gold based blushes. If you have a cool skin tone, go for pink blushes.  If your cheeks already have a natural flush to them, skip out on blush all together, you don't need it!

Wash your makeup brushes at least once every week.  As much of a hassle as it may seem, you must remember that those brushes are on your face almost every day, therefore they pick up the dirt and bacteria on your face and harvest it.  Which means that although you might wash your face every day, twice a day even, the next time you apply your makeup using those brushes you're placing all of that dirt and bacteria back onto your face.  This can cause breakouts.  So deep clean those brushes!!

To avoid getting lipstick on your teeth stick your index finger in your mouth and suck in as you pull your finger out.  This will remove any excess lipstick that would otherwise stain your teeth.
