Benefit Cosmetics: High Beam review

Highlighters, in my opinion, are one of the greatest makeup items ever invented. It has a way of lighting up your face and making you look more youthful and healthy.  The first highlighter I ever purchased was 'Benefit High Beam'.  If you have read my blog for a long time then you know that I am and always have been a huge benefit cosmetics fan, so obviously the first highlighter I decided to try was High Beam.

High Beam is a liquid highlighter which is described as a pink luminescent complexion enhancer and I completely agree with that.  It is a cool, silver toned almost metallic baby pink with lots, and lots of shimmer.  This product doesn't have huge chunks of glitter in it, but the soft shimmer is noticeable on your face.  If applied correctly, this gorgeous highlighter makes you look more youthful and makes your skin look dewy.
Unblended
I apply this to my my cheekbones, cupids bow, under my brows, and the bridge of my nose.  To make yourself look more 'youthful and glowing' and less 'greasy disco ball' you should know that this blends beautifully and so you don't need a lot of product.  I recommend using three small dots along your cheekbones, one little dot on your cupids bow, one dot under each brow, and one dot at the tip of your nose bridge and blend by dabbing instead of rubbing.  I also recommend blending quickly for best results.   For a night time look, you can add this to your tinted moisturizer and apply it to your entire face, but i wouldn't recommend doing that with this particular highlighter during the day as it will for sure make you look like a disco ball.
Slightly blended
I don't use this as an every day highlighter because i prefer my Arbonne sheer glow highlighter or NARS Nico for day time because they're both glitter/shimmer free, but I really like this for parties and events.  I will wear this as a day time highlighter when I'm wearing a matte blush, or no blush at all.  I feel like a blush like NARS super orgasm paired with this highlighter would just be way too much glitter on your face for day time.
completely blended
The packaging for this highlighter is beautiful, like with all Benefit products.  I feel like it's girly and just really pretty and it's the kind of product that I like to have sitting on my makeup shelf.  The full size looks like a nail varnish bottle, complete with a brush applicator exactly like nail polish!  I've heard people complain about the brush, and i don't really like it myself, which is one of the reasons i purchased the mini, which has a doe foot applicator.
I purchased the mini version early last February and I'm not even close to being finished yet, so i'm glad that i purchased this instead of the full size version.  The mini contains .13 fl. oz of product, while the full size contains .45 fl. oz and retails for $26 US.  I think that the mini is best for traveling and if you just want to try this product out.  The full size may seem expensive but it is a great investment if you love this product as it will last you forever.

All in all, i love this product.  I think it is fantastic and when my mini eventually runs out I will purchase the full size.  Benefit also has moon beam, which is a golden apricot complexion enhancer and is a more warm toned option for those who don't like the cool tone of this highlighter.  They also just came out with Watt's Up which I will be reviewing shortly.

Have you tried the Benefit highlighters?  Which is your favorite?

  2. Lacey, I think that this highlighter would go perfect with your skin tone. If you're looking for something a little warmer and more subtle, I'd recommend Benefit's Watt's Up. Thanks for commenting! - Kels
