Revlon Lip Butters: Review & Swatches!

Hey Everyone,
I'm definitely a little late on the bandwagon here, but a couple months ago I managed to pick up three of the Revlon lip butters.  After the internet exploded with raves about this particular product I knew I had to go out and test them for myself when they came out in Canada.  I've been alternating between these three lip butters religiously, so I thought i'd write a quick review to talk about my thoughts on them.

Firstly, I really like the packaging for these products.  The cap has a quilted pattern on it, similar to Revlon's Color Burst lipstick; however, that is where the similarities between the packaging of the two end.  The cap on the lip butters is a similar colour to the lip butter inside, which makes it easier to differentiate between shades.  As well, the top of the cap is clear plastic so you can actually see the colour of the lip butter inside!  Over all, I love the look and convenience of the packaging.

One complaint that i have about these is that I expected them to have some kind of sweet fragrance since they have such mouth watering names and contain mango, coconut and shea butter, but this product has no taste or smell. Fragrance wasn't a make or break deal for me regarding these lip butters, but it would have been a nice bonus.

I was very impressed by the consistency and pigmentation of these lip butters.  They apply like a creamy lip balm, and have the pigmentation of a sheer to full coverage lipstick.  I have an issue with lipsticks drying out my lips, and these lip butters make my lips feel very moisturized, even after they have worn off.  The staying power of the Revlon lip butters aren't that great, which is to be expected considering the formulation of them.  The thing to keep in mind is that they are a lip butter, not a full coverage lipstick so they are going to slide off the lips quite easily.  On me, these last about 2 hours on my lips before I need to reapply.

One last thing about the consistency that I want to mention is that all of the lip butters have a gorgeous sheen to them.  You can see in my lip swatches below and even on my hand swatches that every colour I picked up has this sheen that just makes your lips look juicy and hydrated.

Another negative to the lip butters is that the packaging can be a little temperamental at times and can be hard to twist back down, and the bullet tends to squish against the side of the tube as you twist the product up and down to apply.  The formulation of these are really soft (because they are a lip butter) so if you leave them in your car or purse they will melt.

The shades that i wound up purchasing were: Strawberry Shortcake, Peach Parfait, and Red Velvet.

Strawberry Shortcake:  Is a gorgeous, kind of cool-toned rosey pink.  Cool-toned pinks usually don't look great on me, they actually tend to wash me out, but Strawberry Shortcake doesn't do that.  This one has light-medium lip coverage depending on how much you apply, but it can definitely be built up.  I actually wrote a post last month about how Strawberry Shortcake is a dupe for NARS Roman Holiday lipstick, so check that post out by clicking here

Peach Parfait: is my favourite of all the lip butters i purchased!  Peach Parfait is a gorgeous peachy-pink color and it is one of the lip butters that has shimmer in it.  The only negative thing about this shade is that the glitter particles isn't as finely milled as I wish they were.  It isn't super noticeable on your lips, but you can feel the glitter on your lips when you rub them together, it feels like grains of sand on your lips.  At first that really bothered me, but i've gotten used to it.  Peach Parfait is a stunning every day lip colour that I find myself reaching for constantly.

Red Velvet: This shade has been so hard for some people to get their hands on, and I completely see why.  This is a full coverage on the first swipe kind of deep red velvet shade.  The pigmentation on this is fantastic considering the fact that it is a lip butter.  It is so beautiful, this lip swatch is not doing it justice at all.  It is a little deeper in person, more like the swatch on my hand.  I think that this particular shade would be perfect for Fall and Winter.

All 20 shades of the Revlon lip butters retail for $7-8 US and $11.99 CND.  I find that Revlon produces some of the best lip products on the drugstore market, and these lip butters are no exception to that.  They are definitely worth the hype and I cannot wait to purchase more of them!

    2. I recently purchased Peach Parfait, and I've used it very lightly on my lips and I haven't noticed the glitter particles- Is it when I fully wear the color that it feels sandy?

    3. When I wear it, i coat it on my lips to achieve maximum opacity, and that's when it feels sandy, yes! When i only apply a light layer I don't feel the glitter particles either! :)

  2. I have Tutti Fruity and Creamsicle and I use them constantly. Tutti Fruity is the equivalent of a lipstick and it's a perfect bright orange shade. Creamsicle is the best nude lip I've ever used and I have a feeling I'll be using it as long as humanly possibe. I definitely recommend both of them! Tutti Fruity is my go-to spring/summer lip colour when paired with a neutral/bronzey smokey eye :D They both look just as gorgeous when I tone them down with a gold-coloured lip gloss :) Peach Parfait looks great on you!
